Mfulawamanzi Laboratory Centre is a fully black-owned and woman-run laboratory specializing in water and coal testing. Located in the Mpumalanga province, we have established a strong footprint and a remarkable growth trajectory. Founded in 2012, our journey from slow growth to securing funding from SEDA and achieving SANAS Accreditation has fueled our exponential growth.
Mfulawamanzi has its origins in the Province of Mpumalanga. The province is perceived as one of the most improverished regions in the country – however, the establishment of Mfulawamanzi, as the first owned Black Laboratory in the Province, set the platform for the rapid growth of Black Water and Coal Professional within the region.
The Company is determined to make a difference and establish a solid national footprint in both the water – and mining sector. The Company’s vision is to demonstrate ‘African excellence’ in everything that it does.
The growth of the company since its inception has been very slow. In 2009 the company approached SEDA (Small Enterprise Development Agency) for funding. On approval of our application SEDA provided the company with a grant to procure new laboratory equipment and also to assist the company in obtaining its SANAS Accreditation. The support from SEDA allowed the company to secure state tenders for water quality monitoring and this in turn allowed the company to grow exponentially.
In 2022 October the company restructured and change its name from Mpumamanzi Group to that of MFULAWAMANZI. The name change was necessary as the company took a strategic decision to diversify its services from a purely water analytical service to that a waterprofessional service and coal services. At the same time the company converted from a 100% Black-owned Company (BO) to a 100% Black woman-owned Company (BWO).
The company is situated in Middelburg after procuring a state-of-the-art water & Coal laboratory from BHP Billiton. The building was customed-designed to conduct both coal and water analyses. This state-of-the art facility allowed us to become the first wholly owned black company to own and managed a fully fledged SANAS Accredited Laboratory for both water and coal analysis. Our standards of quality are very high, and this is reflected in our structure and our commitment to increase employment within the Nkangala District as well as to increase the number of Natural Scientist within the region.
